WX Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Buffalo

(Tonawndas) - It would seem that the storm predicted for 10 pm or later by the national Weather Service at Buffalo, NY has arrived early and depending where you are commutuing this evening will definately have a affect on your driving.

On a drive from Gratwick Riverside Park to the Boulevard Mall moments ago, conditions changed from light drizzel to strong winds, hydroplaning and street flooding. There were areas of low visiblity due to the strong downpours.

Drivers are reminded to use their Winter Driving Skills, (I know -sorry) of giving others space, reducing speed and increasing stopping distance between their car or trucka nd others. It may be difficult to stop at intersections and difficult to see the bicyclists who may be present, especially those without light or reflective clothing.

In addition it may be wise to keep in mind the historical flooding troublespots throughout Western New York

This would include any roadway that may become flooded to the point where it is not passible, including:

  • A. 109 N and S At the Interneational Rail Road Bridge (Black Rock Locks at USACE, Buffalo, NY
  • B. Niagara Street, Buffalo, NY
  • C. Elmwood Avenue next to FWS - Railroad Bridge.
