Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry on Monday apprehended a man wanted for homicide in Austin, Texas.
On September 12, CBP officers working northbound pedestrian traffic at the Gateway International Bridge encountered a male pedestrian. The man, identified as Jose Luis Hernandez Jaimez, 45, a citizen of Mexico and resident of Austin, Texas, was escorted to secondary for verification of a possible outstanding arrest warrant for homicide. At secondary, a CBP officer's checks of a CBP database identified Jose Luis Hernandez Jaimez as the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant from Travis County. CBP officers arrested Hernandez Jaimez and subsequently turned him over to the custody of the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. Jose Luis Hernandez Jaimez was transported to the Carrizales/Rucker Detention Center pending extradition to Austin, Texas.
“As a direct result of the great work being done by our frontline officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry, this wanted fugitive will be extradited to face pending charges in Travis County. Vigilance on the frontline has resulted in another great arrest by CBP," said Michael Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville Port of Entry.
