City response to legal proceedings: City Council Ward 9 and TDSB Ward 4 (City Wards 7 and 8)

The City of Toronto will appeal the April 21 decision by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, which declared the election results invalid for City Council Ward 9 and Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Ward 4 (City Wards 7 and 8) and ordered by-elections for these two offices. In response to events this week which made it clear that the decision would be appealed to the Divisional Court by other parties, and in order to ensure appropriate representation, the City Clerk has decided to proceed with an appeal. The City will make every effort to expedite the proceedings and resolve the matter as quickly as possible. As a result, a by-election cannot be held while the matter continues to be before the courts.Toronto is Canada's largest city and sixth largest government, and home to a diverse population of about 2.6 million people. Toronto's government is dedicated to delivering customer service excellence, creating a transparent and accountable government, reducing the size and cost of government and building a transportation city. For information on non-emergency City services and programs, Toronto residents, businesses and visitors can dial 311, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
